Ed Lamont presents AMERICA'S GILDED AGE CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS to the Garcilaso de la Vega Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution

At noon on Saturday, December 12, 2020, Ed Lamont presents America's Gilded Age Christmas Traditions to the Daughters of the American Revolution - Garcilaso de la Vega Chapter's virtual meeting.

Much of how we celebrate Christmas today can be traced to America's Gilded Age of the 19th Century. Santa Claus, Christmas trees, Christmas presents, and even Christmas cards have a unique American history. Our holiday traditions evolved from centuries of pagan feasts followed by year-end rowdiness and periods of misrule to become the child centered and holier holiday so loved today.

Since 1991 Ed has served as a docent at WHITEWALL - the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum in Palm Beach. He's led over 2,500 tours into America’s Gilded Age at the Flagler Museum and was recognized as the museum’s 2001, 2006, and 2007 Interpretive Docent of the Year. Ed conducts historical tours of the Breakers Hotel, gives art gallery talks at the Esther O'Keeffe Gallery of the Society of the Four Arts, and leads TALK OF KINGS book discussions at the King Library on the Society of the Fours Arts campus in Palm Beach.
