On Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 5:30 pm, Ed Lamont leads a TALK OF KINGS book discussion of ONE CHRISTMAS IN WASHINGTON by David Bercuson and Holger Herwig.
A little more than two weeks after Pearl Harbor was attacked, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt met at the White House. It was Christmas in Washington – 1941. Churchill braved an Atlantic crossing to forge a Grand Alliance between the United States and Great Britain. Amid shock, confusion, and fear, plans to coordinate Armies, Navies, and Air Forces are difficult to prepare. How do two proud and accomplished men struggle to overcome their own biases, suspicions, and hubris to create unity of command necessary to defeat Germany, Japan, and their allies? It wasn't easy.
