The event will be held at the Gioconda and Joseph King Library on campus of the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, FL.
1920's Florida was a time of incredible excess, immense wealth, and precipitous collapse. In?BUBBLE IN THE SUN, author Christopher Knowlton examines the grand artistic and entrepreneurial visions behind Coral Gables, Boca Raton, Miami Beach as well as the darker side of the frenzy. Fortunes were made and lost. Nightlife raged raucously. All while the beauty of the Everglades suffered ruination.
Meet the men who made Florida go boom - Addison Mizner in Palm Beach and Boca Raton; Carl Fisher in Miami Beach; George Merrick in Coral Gables, and others. Learn about Henry Flagler's role in building the transportation system that transformed Florida's east coat from remote to resort. Marjory Stoneman Douglas's crusade for environmental justice for the Everglades is a major theme in this book. And...did the Florida real estate collapse truly trigger the Great Depression?
