Ed Lamont Delivers Guest Lecture at Palm Beach Atlantic University

Ed Lamont spoke to Dr. Wesley Borucki's Palm Beach Atlantic University AMERICAN HISTORY class on October 30, 2017. Ed's presentation FLAGLER'S FLORIDA TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS told the story of Henry M. Flagler's pivotal contributions to the creation of a modern transportation system in Florida.

Railroads, steamship lines, and canals he built transformed Florida from America's last eastern frontier to an economic powerhouse. Flagler's efforts catapulted Florida's tourism and agri-business industry into world wide prominence. Major metropolitan cities including Miami, West Palm Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale were founded and connected. St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, and Key West grow from distant locations to easily accessible urban areas.

The economic potential Florida realizes today is anchored in Flagler's vision, work ethic, and wealth invested during America's Gilded Age. For this he's considered the Founder of Modern Florida.
