Ecuador - Colorful Cuenca

This week, I want to remind you about one of Ecuador's Mainland gems - Cuenca. Probably most well known for its UNESCO World Heritage status, the city holds many attractions for travelers. Its beautiful weather makes it a great year-round destination and its welcoming Andean vibe invites guests to stroll the lovely streets to admire its architecture, colonial charm and gorgeous mountain backdrop.

Our team has been out in the field quite a bit recently, including visits to Cuenca. Our rock star sales agent at Alisson visited the new Itza Hotel. Built in 1930, it is a restored home that has been converted into a boutique hotel while still retaining the essence of its place in the city. It has four categories of rooms; standard with interior view, suite, luxury suite and the presidential room, which overlooks the city with a private balcony.

My wife Cristina and daughter Alegria also visited Cuenca and saw the Itza. They found it had just the right amount of luxury with outstanding decor; excellent facilities and amenities; a good location near the main plaza, restaurants and bars; and an amazing roof top bar with an excellent view to the dome of Cuenca's Cathedral. During their 'girls only' city adventure they even got to the airport totally hassle-free by taking the tram.

Alisson also visited Mansion Alcazar, a very well known traditional luxury?property that closed during the pandemic.

She went to see its relaunch and was happy to confirm that the classic architecture of the nineteenth century has been lovingly preserved. The decoration of both the public spaces of the mansion and its rooms embraces the style of elegance of the time, with luxurious furniture, ornaments and paintings that once were at home in some of the finest residences and estates of the area.

Itza Hotel echoes the romance of the city, making it a great property for couples, while the more traditional Mansion Alcazar is a great fit for families.
