Ecsite people - Meet our Communications Trainee Madisson

Find out more about work and life at Ecsite in our staff portrait series. Hear from our Communications Trainee, Madisson Pillikse-Laidsaar , about what she likes about working with the Ecsite community, and her passion for Eurovision.

?? Can you please set up the scene and tell us what you see from your desk?

We have a lovely array of plants in the office so I can see them positioned sporadically around the place, giving the office a lovely pop of green. The green nicely matches the very tops of the blossoming horse chestnut trees along Avenue Louise (at least that’s what I think they are!) and juxtaposes nicely against the drizzly, grey Brussels sky that I can see out the window

?? What is the main purpose of your role?

I’m here to assist the communications team in any way necessary, whether it’s editing interviews, updating the website or sourcing things for the conference – I’m here to help!

?? What are you working on right now?

I am currently organising the data to import into our conference App, getting everything ready for Malta.

?? What are the most enjoyable and challenging parts of your role so far?

I really love reading and hearing about the different science centres in the Ecsite community. I have also been editing a lot of interviews with our members and I feel very inspired by some of the sustainability practices they are putting in place. As for challenges, sometimes Excel and I have a few disagreements but in the end it always works out.

?? How did you end up in this position?

After studying a Master in European Policies, I was looking for a work environment that would be interesting but also compatible with my ethics and Ecsite was the perfect match.

?? In the future you would like to…

Travel sustainably around Georgia and eat their delicious cuisine! I dream of tasting authentic khinkali and khachapuri, and washing it all down with some delicious Georgian red wine. I would also love to visit Kyrgyzstan and see its beautiful natural landscapes for myself.?

PS: What is the most beautiful thing you have seen this week?

As a big Eurovision fan, I was very moved by Alyosha’s performance of Duran Duran’s ‘Ordinary World’ at the first semi-final of Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. It was a very heartfelt tribute to Ukraine which I thought it was very beautiful and the show of support and solidarity from the crowd was amazing.
