Economics of Therapy

I just did a count up of the number of Essential Oil blends which I make for customers and therapists. It runs into the hundreds and just for further interest I worked out how many oils I use on a regular basis to produce these blends. It came out to 151 separate oils, absolutes and carriers……  and that isn’t counting the “one-offs” which I track down occasionally for a special blend.

The number and quality of essential oils has increased exponentially over the last twenty years and the call for their benefits has increased at the same rate. There is now considerable research being carried out in Universities and independent laboratories to identify the properties and active ingredients of these oils so that practitioners can talk with real confidence of the medical and therapeutic benefits of these wonderful natural products. Aromatherapists around the world have a vastly expanded range of products at their fingertips. What hasn’t changed though is the economics of therapy and for many practitioners the cost of buying in so many oils is out of the question. Particularly as many of these may be special purchases used only once in a flood. Buying small quantities of essential oils and absolutes is also an expensive way to purchase. Large volumes get large discounts….
