ECONOMIC WANE, PAIN, GAIN.?
A consuming thought.?
Post-war baby boomers did incur the costs and deprivations of seemingly crippling house mortgage interest rates of 17%.?
Collectively, they took it on the chin, accepted the need to make sacrifices and carried on.?
Those short-term sacrifices led to long-term gains. Part of the lessons from the rich tapestry of life.?
Contemporary consumers are enduring lower interest rates, but higher prices, lack of available purchase and rental offerings and intense competition for what is available. Sacrifices do not figure prominently in a marketplace, where getting on the first step of the home ownership ladder is difficult, if not impossible.?
The common thread is affordability. Awareness is now community-wide that economic boom times do not last. Cyclical downturns, contractions, recessions and depressions are typical, pending, present, recent or in prospect.?
Trimming the jib to suit the wind conditions is a yachting fundamental principle. Adjustments are necessary to maintain and to maximise momentum.?
Unquestionably, “pain” is being experienced by many, which in turn may require sacrifices. Neither implies removal of hope, better times and gain at some possibly indeterminable time in the future.?
Modern economies are intersections in which there are many moving parts. Lubricating and leveraging those that provide competitive and comparative advantage. Given current circumstances, focus and emphasis should be on optimising rather than maximizing.?
That may equate to pain and/or sacrifice in the immediate term. The gain may be just beyond the horizon.?
