Economic Outlook update by IMF

It is interesting to see optimistic projections by IMF of 6% World GDP growth in 2021 and 4.9% GDP growth in 2022 mostly driven by sizeable fiscal support of $4.6 trillion of announced pandemic related measures in the US and the Euro.

Key downside risks though:

1. Pandemic has still not died down especially with the delta variant in the air. Close to 40 percent of the population in advanced economies has been fully vaccinated, compared with 11 percent in emerging market economies, and a tiny fraction in low-income developing countries.
2. Inflation : Pent-up demand and supply chain bottlenecks are putting upward pressure on asset and wage prices through IMF thinks these are transitory in nature.
