ecomice - new skills and narratives for the meetings' industry

Attracting international business events is a key growth segment for the development of the city or nation. ?

Meetings and conferences frequently are the beginning or a result of new investments, they incubate knowledge transfers and attract new business networks. Business events are platforms for education and improvements. Through the concept of leaving a sustainable legacy, events can have an amplifying influence on urgently needed changes and measures in a destination and on the planet.

To have such wide effect, the collaboration between DMOs (destination marketers), local stakeholders, global event organizers needs to expand and deepen. With responsible and sustainable acting being a key element for any future event, we recognize that we need CHANGE everywhere!

The result is a need for new products and narratives - based on change.

Here are a few ideas for destinations where to get started:

1)?Analyse and identify key segments / collaborations / options in the destination

2) Align key messages and share them with MICE industry stakeholders

3) Work on new products and programs incorporating a holistic view on business in the destination

3) Collaborate on communication across clusters to enforce key strategies

4) Create new narratives

5) Build new communities

6) Change your own focus and ask yourself: Haven't we reached a tipping point for growth in hospitality worldwide? What are the best parameters for future developments? Will our change result in a better society and a healthy environment? Can we do better with what we already have? There are many questions to answer and many thoughts to reflect on.

Let us commit to two simple basics for a better meetings industry:

In order to be able to carry out international business events in the future, we want to make sure that ALL our actions support sustainable developments - along all supply chains involved.

To stay relevant as an industry we need to broaden connections, to collaborate more open and to build new bridges.

I believe most of us keep going because everyone else does too ... Let's break this behaviour and go a different way. Every journey starts with a first step! Share your views with me and follow ecomice here on LinkedIn to learn more.
