Election Commission's Bollywood Meme Campaign Boosts Voter Turnout in Lok Sabha Elections 2024
In an innovative move to encourage voter participation, the Election Commission of India tapped into popular culture by leveraging the trending "Lapataa Ladies" meme. This creative campaign aims to inspire higher voter turnout for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, set to take place on May 25.
The Election Commission posted a meme on social media platform X, featuring characters from Kiran Rao's hit film "Lapataa Ladies." The shared image reimagines a scene where the lead character, Deepak (played by Sparsh Srivastav), prompts his wife, Phool Kumari (played by Nitanshi Goel), to speak in English. In a clever twist, the dialogue was adapted to encourage voting, with Deepak saying, “Let's go to vote.”
