I recently met a man with an extraordinary mind, someone whose talents seem to defy ordinary comprehension. A humble and unassuming presence, he has a gift for conversation—a true explorer of thought, comfortable in the vastness of any topic. For the purposes of this article, I will refer to him as The World Builder . Why? Because he is a coder through and through.
You see, a world builder creates digital environments with the precision of an architect and the imagination of a storyteller. The World Builder doesn’t just design virtual landscapes; he weaves together entire ecosystems, orchestrating particles and processes at a quantum level to bring these worlds to life. His work operates on a cosmic scale, yet at its heart, it’s all about the fine details, the endless manipulation of code and structure that makes his creations feel like fully realized universes. His passion lies in crafting immersive experiences, mainly through games, where players—like us—control avatars, exploring these spaces alongside other player characters (PCs) and non-player characters (NPCs) with their own coded intentions and roles.
As our conversation stretched into its sixth hour, a thought struck me with sudden clarity. We had ventured into the realm of technological advancements, discussing how virtual worlds are on the brink of becoming indistinguishable from our own. And then it hit me: What if I am in a simulation right now? How would I ever know? How could I prove or disprove it? Am I a player character, an active participant, or merely an NPC, following a pre-determined script? And what about The World Builder? Is he, too, a creation of this grand design?
My logical mind kicked into overdrive, searching for patterns, anomalies, or even a framework to apply. But I’m no scientist. Thought experiments flooded in, hypothetical scenarios stretched my imagination, yet they felt incomplete. I flirted with the idea of mathematical inquiry, the elegance of equations revealing hidden truths, but again, I am no mathematician.
And then, I paused. The frantic pursuit of answers quieted, and the philosopher within me surfaced.
In that quiet moment, I stopped looking outward for proofs and instead turned inward. The questions weren’t about the world outside but about the world within. What does it mean to be real? What defines existence?
I was snapped back into the present by a simple, yet profound scene: The World Builder, sitting across from me, lifted his glass to take a sip. The fluid swirled around the ice, behaving as fluid should, or at least, as I’ve always known it to behave. The ice shifted slightly, clinking softly against the glass. Was this reality, or just what I was programmed to believe?
Reality isn’t a rigid construct but a fluid tapestry woven from our perceptions. In this tapestry, the self isn’t confined by labels of 'simulated' or 'non-simulated.' Instead, it is in the act of questioning and seeking that our true essence is revealed.
Our conversation meandered back into focus, touching on the idea of frequency. As if reading my thoughts, The World Builder mentioned how, through the use of psychedelics, many report experiences of tapping into other realms or dimensions. He spoke of how some are receiving information from an unknown frequency, an unseen wavelength that perhaps connects us all.

The word "frequency" jolted me back. Had he designed me specifically to interact with him? Was there a reason we seemed so perfectly tuned to one another, effortlessly exploring these philosophical landscapes? Was this connection another layer of the simulation, or something deeper?
Every question we dare to ask tears a small hole in the veil of certainty, allowing us to glimpse the vastness beyond our conditioned understanding. It is in this relentless pursuit of questioning that we begin to break free.
And yet, I was pulled back again—The World Builder leaned in, his fingers tapping lightly on the table. The texture of the wood, the subtle hum of life around us, all these sensory details grounded me in the now, even as my mind wandered the abstract.
In the embrace of uncertainty, I found a strange and profound comfort. It is not in the knowing, but in the journey of seeking, that life reveals its most authentic and beautiful self.
In that moment, I realized I didn’t care what the ultimate truth was. Whether this was a simulation or reality didn’t matter. What mattered was the richness of the experience, the depth of our conversation, and the profound connection with The World Builder. If I were to choose a guide for this journey through the realms of thought and existence, I couldn’t imagine a better companion.
I relaxed, letting the philosopher within me calm down. The "me" behind my eyes re-entered this space—whether a creation of reality, his design, or something else entirely—and embraced the ideas pouring in. Together, The World Builder and I journeyed further, crafting new concepts and exploring realms of thought designed to make a positive impact, not just for ourselves but for everyone, both PCs and NPCs alike.
And so, dear reader, this journey is not mine alone. It’s an open invitation for you to step beyond the familiar, to challenge your reality, and to embark on your own path of philosophical discovery. In questioning, we find not just answers, but ourselves.
Here's to the future worlds yet to come!
