Back to university! Learning with eCampus
Swiss Life Germany offers its sales partners a digital learning world to make learning as pleasant, interesting and easy as possible. From trainees to executives, the eCampus can be used by everyone. The platform is structured like a real university campus so that learners can easily find their way around when searching for content and training opportunities. This means that learners can find all continuing education courses sorted by topic in the corresponding buildings.
Learning needs
The introduction of eCampus was intended to replace an ILIAS learning management system that was more than 10 years old. In the future, all content and learning formats were to be bundled on a central learning platform and made available to the 10,000 learners at Swiss Life Germany's five sales companies. Since the digital learning campus combines many further training options, the development made it possible to replace several tools and platforms.
The goal of the project was to make all content related to training and continuing education permanently available to everyone, at any time and any place, thus enabling self-determined learning. In order to take into account the wishes of all target groups in the distribution, existing learning formats were to be retained and converted into blended learning formats. The library should serve as a central point of contact for knowledge management. At the same time, the sales partners:inside were to have access to all learning activities via their personal desks, from the past to the future. The design of the learning environment was particularly important. It had to be well structured, easy to use and attractively designed.
METHODS
Like being on a real campus
Project progress
After the idea of developing a digital campus as a learning platform was born, the search for a suitable provider began. At the same time, they were in close contact with the sales department in order to meet the needs of the target group. Workshop groups and topic sponsorships were created. On the one hand, this was done to involve various sales partners from different regions and career levels, and on the other hand to provide support in various areas such as design, communication or authorization issues. Early stakeholder involvement and regular exchanges among the sales working and workshop groups helped to improve understanding of the learning intent. The insights gained were considered in the further development of eCampus.
In addition to the desires for future learning, design also played a key role in the development. In order to provide learners with an innovative and intuitive learning experience, traditional views were eschewed in favor of a 3D visual representation of a campus. As on a real campus, learners should be able to find different buildings in which thematically sorted training content is offered.
Prior to the project's release, the progress was tested in two pilot phases by selected distributors and more than 200 feedbacks were collected. To ensure a successful launch of the eCampus, Swiss Life Germany created a modern communication concept tailored to the target group and shot promotional videos. Subsequently, the eCampus was rolled out in Swiss Life Germany's five distribution companies over a period of six months.
The most important features of eCampus include the design, the library and the personal desk. The structured layout of the campus allows learners to get a quick overview of the learning formats. In each building, they can find information on all training content on an information board, view the admission criteria and contact personal contact persons directly.

Another highlight is the library. Here, trainees can find all the relevant content. For example, there are basic training courses on acquisition, consulting and basic technical knowledge for sales newcomers, as well as guidelines for employee interviews and information on recruiting for managers. The aim is above all not to overwhelm the learner with a flood of information, but rather to adapt the content to suit requirements. A modern search function and sorting by various categories simplify targeted searching. Learners can access all available courses and training materials via their personal desktop. In addition, all acquired certificates are stored there and can be accessed and downloaded at any time. Managers can view the learning status of their employees and call up reports on their team via the personal desk. This greatly increases transparency between managers and learners. Interactive learning content such as explanatory videos, quizzes, drag and drop options, card queries and index card systems round off the innovative features of Swiss Life Germany's eCampus.
The personal desk provides an overview
Project result
The "project masterpiece", as it is called at internal sales events, enthused both pilot participants and sales partners. This was also confirmed by a satisfaction survey. Thanks to the streamlined processes and modern look, learners quickly noticed a great added value compared to the old ILIAS learning management system.
In order to continue to inspire learners with eCampus, the successfully established platform will be expanded to include modern learning methods in the follow-up project "Digital Learning in the Future".
"Great way to refresh dusty knowledge and meet legal requirements at the same time. Clearly structured, clearly laid out procedures. "
