Term 2 News Letter

Welcome all, to the EBIS Term 2 PE Department newsletter. We

have had a very busy, productive and exciting term 2 in the

department with the start of our very popular and enjoyable

school camps, many fixtures and competitions with our school

Falcons teams, our annual Sports days and even learning a new

(for most Students) sport in KS2.

PE Lessons

In KS1 the children have been learning about basketball with

Mr. Walid, how to dribble, shoot, pass and play mini games.

Ks2 students have been learning a brand new sport, cricket

with Mr. Adrian and Mr. Matt. Cricket is hugely popular in the

U.K as well as India, Pakistan and Australia and many more

countries around the world. They have been learning how to

bowl, how to field, how to use the bat to hit the ball and also

how to score runs. They have also learnt a cool fact….Cricket is

the 2 nd most watched sport in the world only behind Football.

Ks3 Students have been continuing to develop their Football

skills with Mr. Matt and Mr. Hany and squash skills with Ms.

Reem and Ms. Fatma.

EBIS Camps

In March we welcomed Students from year 5 and 6 for our

annual camps. Classes from A, B and C all joined together from

each year group to participate in all of the exciting activities we

planned. On day one the students were shown how to erect the

tents where they would be sleeping, they then had a chance to

cook their own food on the BBQ…..we had chicken and it was

delicious……we then had football and volleyball tournaments

and straight after we had a treasure hunt. This was the first

time a lot of the Students had participated in the Hunt and they

thoroughly enjoyed working out the cryptic clues provided to

direct them to different locations all around the school. After

this we had a quick snack before calls were allowed to inform

parents that they were all safe. Marshmallows on the BBQ was

the next activity before a well-deserved sleep in readiness for

the morning hike in the Waadi Degla desert.

An early start was required on Friday morning as after a quick

breakfast it was off to the buses to go to the Waadi Degla

desert. Upon arrival the students were given water and a fruit

snack before we started the first leg of our 6km Hike, 3k there

and 3k back. The children were so enthusiastic about the

walking and striving to be the first to arrive at the half way

point….some teachers struggled to keep up with them. When

we arrived we had our snack and then started the team

building game which was using the rocks on the ground to build

a pyramid with the tallest one winning the team points.

We then started the individual hike back where points were

awarded for the fastest back to the start point. Again the

children showed great stamina and a lot actually ran most of

the way hoping to be the winner. It was then back to the buses

for our return to school and the children had a well-deserved

and relaxing swim in the pool. After that we packed up our bags

and dismantled the tents before we had our final meal of

chicken and rice before the final results were announced and

the parents arrived to collect the children.

EBIS Falcons Teams

Falcons Football

Term 2 also saw a busy schedule for our Falcons teams. In

March we participated in the inaugural EEP Games. We entered

teams into the football, basketball and Swimming competitions

held at The British School of Madinaty and also an Athletics

team at Haya International School.

We started with the Under 12’s and 14’s Girls Football with

Coaches Mr. Adrian and Ms. Reem. The under 12’s came up

against some very strong teams and managed to get 2 draws

and 1 win from their group game. This put them in the 5 th and

6 th place play off but unfortunately due to some bad luck and a

few dubious refereeing decisions the girls could not get the win

and finished a commendable 6 th .

The U14’s girls managed to go a little further. They Finished 2 nd

in their group on goal difference with 2 wins and 1 draw.

Unfortunately due to finishing 2 nd on goal difference the girls

were placed in the 3 rd and 4 th place play off. This was however a

little disappointing for the girls as they should have won their

matches by more goals. They did however put that behind

them and won the play off convincingly for a very pleasing 3 rd

place finish. Well done all the girls in both teams on what was a

very exciting and enjoyable tournament.

Falcon’s basketball

The next Tournament in the games was the Boys and Girls

basketball. We took 2 teams to this event who both performed

exceptionally well. The boys U12’s, under Mr. Walid, were

extremely unlucky not to win the whole event after losing in

the final by 2 points. What a great performance, well done

boys!

The U14’s girls also performed exceptionally well. With the

coaching of Ms. Reem they managed to get 4 th place, narrowly

missing out on a bronze medal 18-16 in their first tournament

as a team. Well done to all the girls involved!

Falcons Swimming

Next we had the Swimming Gala. We took a squad of swimmers

who we rearing to go in the U12’s and U14’s categories. This

was a highly competitive gala and EBIs managed to come away

with some very pleasing results and more importantly some

medals. Shehab Khalid (7A) managed to win 2 golds in the

U12’s 50m Freestyle and 100M Butterfly as well as Silver in the

U14’s individual medley. Well done Shehab! Daniel Hany (6A)

won gold in the U12’s backstroke not only winning but winning

by an outstanding 18 seconds. Excellent work Daniel. Hassan

Karim (7D) took home the bronze in the U12’s 50M Backstroke,

Omar Ghonim (7D) swam his way to bronze in the U14’s 50M

Breaststroke and 100M Freestyle, brilliant stuff boys!

In the girls events Malak Mohamed took home bronze in the

U12’s 100M Freestyle and Mariam Ahmed the bronze in the

U12’s 50M Butterfly. Well done girls! A big thank you to all the

team who conducted themselves in a professional, polite and

courteous way despite the day being very long.

Falcons Athletics

The Last tournament of the EEP Games was the Athletics which

was held at Haya Academy. The team competed at a very high

level and we managed to walk away with a number of medals:

Malak Islam (7C) won the gold in the 100m U12’s; Ahmed

Hossam (7E) also gold in the 100m U12’s and silver in 200m;

Amr Ahmed (8A) gold 100m U14’s; and finally Hazem Mostafa

(9B) won gold in the 100m U16’s sprinting. Well done to all the

athletes involved in a very successful meeting!!

Sports Days

March also so the return of our hugely popular sports days

across EYFS, KS1 and KS2. The children were split into their

houses and competed in a variety of games and sports all trying

their best to win points. All key stages had a fantastic and

memorable time and the parents of EYFS and KS1 had a

wonderful day competing with their children.

across the key stages:
