Amazon and eBay still leading the way in marketplace sector
The brand new ChannelX Europe’s Marketplaces 2024 report by Internet Retailing has found the majority of traffic goes to multi-sector marketplaces, with Amazon and eBay unsurprisingly way out in front. Yet, these behemoths only take around 17% and 14% of European traffic respectively.
Behind them is a raft of ‘second tier’ multi-sector marketplaces, such as AliExpress, Allegro and Etsy, all getting single-digit percentages of traffic.
Co-op expands digital media with 300 front-of-store screens
Co-op is to roll out 300 new front-of-store digital media screens to boost its retail media offer.
The new investment has been made in partnership with independent retail media operator SMG, and will increase the convenience retailer‘s total number of screens across its 2,400 stores to 9,300.
Co-op Food managing director Matt Hood said: “The digital screen roll out has been designed to utilise Co-op’s superpower as a media owner, with a store in every postal code area we’re primed to deliver on reach and our high frequency of shoppers ensures that brands gain maximum visibility."
Wimbledon to swap line judges for AI
The Major Tennis tournament, Wimbledon, has announced that from 2025, they will replace 300 line judges with artificial intelligence-fuelled line calling.
"The decision to introduce Live Electronic Line Calling at The Championships was made following a significant period of consideration and consultation," the All England Club chief executive Sally Bolton said.
"Having reviewed the results of the testing undertaken at The Championships this year, we consider the technology to be sufficiently robust and the time is right to take this important step in seeking maximum accuracy in our officiating."
Half of B2B marketers can’t reach their goals for this year
According to survey results from the ‘H2 2024 State of B2B Pipeline Growth‘ report by Pipeline360, 50% of B2B marketers can’t reach their goals for this year. However, when teams are completely aligned on Sales and Marketing efforts and take a Branded Demand approach that incorporates both content syndication and display, 80% are able to reach their goals?– representing a 60% increase.
The survey found that B2B marketers’ top three challenges are budget and resource constraints (48%), economic slowdown (46%), and sales and marketing alignment (44%).
Rise in Consumer Confidence Fuels Online Shopping Growth in Europe
Consumer confidence is rebounding in Europe, leading to a surge in online shopping this year, according to Ecommerce Europe, as reported by Reuters. This resurgence is partly attributed to increased competition from budget-friendly online marketplaces like PDD Holdings' Temu, which are appealing to cost-conscious shoppers.
E-commerce revenue in Europe is projected to reach 958 billion dollars this year, up from 887 billion dollars in 2023. This represents an 8% increase, or 5% when adjusted for inflation, according to the report covering 38 countries, including the UK.
Social video most ‘trusted’ form of content influencing B2B tech buyers, survey finds
Social video is the most “compelling and trusted format” influencing B2B buyers in the technology market, according to a new survey by LinkedIn.
Of the over 1,700 B2B technology buyers in the US, UK and India it surveyed, 63% say short-form social video content from industry experts “helps inform buying decisions”. The data is based on the subset of people who already engage with industry influencers during the purchasing process, which is 91% of the overall sample.
