With EB-1A, do you need to have won a top award like a Nobel to qualify?

No.

What you do need to do to present a strong case is to make an argument for why you are at the top of your field. There are a number of ways to make this argument, all of which do not require that you win a Nobel or equivalent award.

For example, if you are in a leading or critical role and hold a leadership position at a well known company, you can make the argument that you are at the top of your field. You don’t even have to be an executive at the company (I’ve gotten approvals for applicants at the director level, or even individual contributors) but you will need to show that you do perform a leading or critical role at your company through the work you do.

By meeting the leading or critical role criterion, you’ll already have a strong foundation for your EB-1A case and with a year or two of profile-building to meet a few more additional criteria like judging the work of others, you will be able to present a strong EB-1A case to USCIS.
