Finally, the wait is over! Lloyds have announced that Eaton Square tops the poll as the most expensive street in England and Wales.
Built in the 19th Century around a 2.5-hectare private garden, it features stucco white facades and is a stone’s throw away from upmarket Knightsbridge and Chelsea. With property prices averaging little under £17m, Eaton Square has become the most expensive and exclusive street in Britain.
Eaton Square is one of the 3 garden squares built by the Grosvenor family when they developed the main part of Belgravia in the 19th century, and is named after Eaton Hall, Grosvenor’s country house in Cheshire.
The houses in Eaton Square are grand, consisting of three-bay-wide buildings, joined in regular terraces in a classical style, with four or five main storeys, plus attics and basements. Behind the imposing buildings can be found quaint and luxury mews. The square is one of London's largest and is divided into six compartments by the upper end of Kings Road, a superb location for those who love designer brands and luxury food.
Andrew Mason, mortgage director at Lloyds Bank, stated: "Eaton Square, and prime central locations such as Westminster and Kensington and Chelsea, have established reputations as exclusive addresses.” “Not only do these streets possess a rich historical legacy, but properties located there are some of the most prestigious in the world and are close to superb local amenities in Knightsbridge, Sloane Street and Chelsea, as well as the capital's business and entertainment districts."
