Eating After 8 Is Making You Fat! Or Is It?
Carl Simpson
I help busy men over 40 get a grip of their bodies and minds to become the best version of themselves, without the BS.
I've geeked out on many fitness magazines since I was 16.
I look back at some of the articles and think “wtf, really”
One minute carbs are good, the next they are bad.
According to some “self proclaimed” experts
You can eat carbs after a certain time, because you will increase your body's storage of fat!??
But is there any truth in it??
Before we get into it, let's look at how we gain fat.
For those that have been following me for a long time, you will have heard this before.
But let me remind and revise.?
The simple equation, that is not so simple: Calories In Vs Calories out (CICO)
When our intake is LOWER than out OUTPUT (CI<CO)
We lose weight and fat.
When our intake is HIGHER than out OUTPUT (CI>CO)
We gain weight.?
There are things that will influence each side of these equations.
For example, If you have an underactive thyroid and your T4/T3 (hormones) will down regulate.?
This will DECREASE your Calories Out.
So you will burn less calories at a basal level.
Sleep, stress, how active you are, muscle mass, genetics, epigenetics, food types and food quality will also affect the scale.
Now that we have cleared that up, let’s look at the latest study by Ruddick-Collins Et Al (2022)?
Two groups were tested over a 4 week period in either Morning Eating or Late Eating?
This was a randomized, crossover trail. Which means people were selected at random and both groups were trailed in both morning and late evening, with a 1 week washout period.?
Food and drink were provided to ensure a calorie deficit was adhered to.
What did the study show??
领英推荐
Both groups lost SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF FAT.?
Around 3kg.
You can read the full study here:
What about real life??
Let me be clear, this is just one study.?
We don’t live our lives in a testing facility and trails can only be undertaken by individuals for a short amount of time, due to ethical reasons.
We don’t have all the answers yet, nutritional science is a young science and we are still making discoveries.
The problem I have is when people make blanket statements, when each individual is different.
Our habits will affect long term success.
So if you know that you are a bit of a cookie monster at night, which makes you overeat, it’s probably not a good idea to eat at night.
As always with fat-loss…
Energy balance and CICO will dictate which direction your weight goes.?
