Hijack the Hijacker
When we think about the factors that contribute to workplace performance, we rarely give much consideration to food. For those of us battling to stay on top of emails, meetings, and deadlines, food is simply fuel. The foods we eat, a?ect us more than we realize.
And sometimes we are so emotional about the food that we may be rubbing our knees or your head. Sometimes there is an hijack and we tend to behave in ways we won"t be able to explain afterwards..you have been HIJACKED.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let me try to explain what happens when you eat.
Our body converts everything we eat into glucose, which provides the energy our brains need to stay alert. When we're running low on glucose, we have a tough time staying focused and our attention drifts.
I can bet my clavicle that you cannot do well on an empty stomach because you would have invited hunger to be a companion.
Not all foods are processed by our bodies at the same rate. Some foods, like pasta, bread, cereal and soda, release their glucose
quickly, leading to a burst of energy followed by a slump.
High-fat meals provide more sustained energy but require our digestive system to work harder, reducing oxygen levels in the brain.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So back to the hijacker.....The Amygdala
The amygdala is the part of our brain that handles emotions.
An Amygdala Hijack is an immediate and overwhelming emotional response out of proportion to the stimulus because it has triggered a more significant emotional threat.
Not feeding your brain is like telling the amygdala to take over. When you do that, get set for the unexpected
We need to make decisions and strategic ones at that if we are to be global brands hence we cannot afford to give way to any hijack.
Go ahead and hijack the hijacker by feeding your brain with good food.
Stop eating because you feel like eating such a thing rather eat with your sight fixed on the nutrient and watch yourself perform as though you are on steroids.
