This is a love poem, but I believe that Christ and His church are to be found in these verses.
“I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride;
I have gathered my myrrh along with my balsam.
I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey;
I have drunk my wine with my milk.
Eat, friends;
Drink and drink deeply, lovers,” (Song of Solomon 5:1 NASB).
The groom enjoys the excellent fruits of his garden. He is enjoying his bride. The vows have been given and the wedding is complete.
Then the daughters of Jerusalem end this verse by saying they need to eat and drink. It’s a plea from the chorus to celebrate the joy of your union.
Just the same, Christ loves his people. We are His chosen bride belonging to Him. The price has been paid and He has his claim on us.
The parables of Jesus tell us eventually a time of celebration and wedding is coming. What great rejoicing that will be. Joy uncontainable. We should be excited at this prospect that compels us to follow Christ daily.
