Easy Ways Your BOARD MEMBERS can leverage LinkedIn to support your organization

Your board members can leverage LinkedIn in simple and easy ways to show their support of an organization, create more visibility for your organization, and support your page goals (membership recruitment, event participation, sponsor recruitment, etc.) -- all while leveraging their social capital. Here's how. ??

1. Add "Board Member" to their EXPERIENCE section.

Instructions in this video:

2. Repost with your thoughts" from your company page (once a month).

Here's how: https://youtu.be/m3LJAZIHoXE?si=AbaRgMRoxek_-AO1?sub_confirmation=1

Pro tip: ask your page admin / social media or marketing manager to prep an email with instructions on what to do and how, as well as WHY.

3. Ask them to invite their connections to FOLLOW your company page.

Note: this requires them to be an Admin on your page OR to have your page linked in their experience section (LinkedIn sees them as an "employee").

Instructions: https://youtu.be/FuaFPKeAUhk?si=TXzBMYFmMVIIgDB8?sub_confirmation=1

4. Encourage them to engage with your page (video coming soon). HOW?

-- Click "Like" or another reaction to page posts

-- Once a month, add a thoughtful comment to a recent page post

-- Occasionally -- and when relevant to a conversation, share a page post with a connection

WHY?

  • Engagement on your page creates MORE engagement.
  • Nobody wants to be the first person to comment.
  • It increases their visibility as a supporter of your organization.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Nonprofits especially need board members that engage as advocates for their mission, spread the word to their networks, and aren't afraid to say join me! These are great suggestions!

Smart to focus on board members - they often have the most valuable networks but are the least active. We've seen how even occasional LinkedIn engagement from board members led to new partnerships and investor intros.

This is such a great article! We often ask board members to engage with our pages, but this has concrete, clear examples and is easy to share. Thank you for this resource Brenda Meller??!
