The Easy Way To Sell Complicated Things

The Easy Way To Sell Complicated Things

One of my favourite things to do is to help clients with a technical, complicated, new or sophisticated who struggle to communicate it.

This is one of the mainstays of my Clear Sales Message? work.

Here I want to distill a few simple strategies and quick wins to help you if you have a complicated offering or just struggle to explain it.

Enjoy!

1 - Compare to something they already understand.

If you have something new or complex people struggle to get it. Compare it to something they might already understand and it gets a LOT easier.

This is where statements like "the Uber of X" or "It's like an oven but for X" come from.

The question is - what can we compare your offering to?

2 - Talk about the problems you solve

What problems do you actually solve?

If you haven't already defined them, it helps your buyer to connect with you if you can be explicit about the precise problems you solve.

For example I solve 3 problems:

  • Simplifying a complex offering.
  • Differentiating in the marketplace.
  • "Justifying" the price of a high value or intangible offer.

3 - Demonstrate how it works

Sometimes the best way to understand something is to see it in action.

How can you demonstrate how your offering works?

4 - Offer a way for people to experience your offering.

Seeing how it works is one thing.

Experiencing it is better.

How can you provide a free trial, a free sample, any way for buyers to experience the impact of your offering?

People always try and over complicate things, try and explain every detail of how something works, sometimes the simpliest explanation is the best.
