The Easy Way I Get On (Nearly) Any Podcast

Very few things are easy in business

this is one of them.

I've been teaching this to friends in private calls, might as well publish it so I don't have to repeat myself.

To bring you up to speed:

I've paid PR firms a pretty penny in the past to place me on podcasts

and it works

I won't dissuade you from doing the same

but with the rise of powerful outreach tools

and using common sense AKA being a COOL human and not spam slapping

you can get pretty good results with what I'm about to show you (I'm getting about 30-40% yes rates)

While I can't promise the same, I can promise you this is 10x better than what most are paying for (I see their junk in my inbox daily pitching to get on my podcast)

Hopefully you're bought in by now... if not, that's cool too.

Ok, so the tools I use:

? List builder: Podseeker Pro

? List cleanse: Clay (can use the free version)

? List organization: Google Sheets

? Copywriting: brain + empty document

? Intel: ListenNotes (free)

? Outreach: La Growth Machine

How to put it all together

? Podseeker

? Filter down on podcasts for your ideal audience (host must have guests)

? Create your list (this takes time) (don't worry if the podcast does NOT have an email, we'll solve that later)

? Download your final list to a CSV/Google Sheet


? Google Sheet (step 1)

? Do a quality assurance on the podcast to ensure its a good fit (review the description)

? Finalize a clean list and export it as CSV -> upload to Clay


? Clay

? If the podcast has an email, validate it

? If the podcast does NOT have an email, find the host email by using the domain and host name, and if Clay finds it, validate it

? Source the Host LinkedIn profile URL

? Export to CSV -> Google Sheet


? Empty Doc + your brain

? Write some outreach copy to the podcast host: keep it short and relevant.

Here's a sample of what I use (DO NOT COPY PASTE - I'm giving you the gist of what to say but you gotta make it your own for this to work. And yes...you DO have to listen to their podcast (more on that later)...if not, you're completely wasting your time)

Subject: Your chat with [GUEST-NAME]

Body:

Hey [HOST], just heard your pod with [GUEST-NAME], I appreciated [WHAT GUEST SAID - WHY I APPRECIATE IT]

Curious, would chatting about [TOPIC] be worth recording?

[REASON WHY YOU SELECTED THIS TOPIC]

[SOFT ASK]

If you're open to it, I'd love to chat. Either way [COMPLIMENT]

[SIGNATURE]

--

(If this email is dripping with Josh Braun vibes, it's because he inspired it)


? Google Sheet (final step)

Create and sort the final columns

? Full name

? Email

? Website

? LinkedIn

? Title

And then add your custom columns to fill in the email copy you wrote

i.e.

? HOST

? GUEST NAME

? WHAT GUEST SAID

you get the picture.

Now, the only unknown variables you have to fill in are

1 - The guest you heard

2 - what you appreciate from their convo

3 - a compliment


To do this seamlessly:

? Use ListenNotes

? Search the podcast

? Find a recent guest and topic that you resonate with

??Listen on 1 or 2x speed for a few minutes and fill in the unknown 1-2-3 variables

Fun fact: oddly enough, by doing this, I built a relationship by meeting with a podcast guest instead of the host... so DON'T SKIP this step...

Now time to put it all together:


? La Growth Machine

? Import your CSV as a contact list (ensure your variables are imported)

? Create an outreach campaign using email + LinkedIn

Day 1: email (see above)

Day 2: LinkedIn Connect "sent you an email to be a guest, putting a name to the face" (most responses come in here)

Day 5: Follow up email (keep it simple)

Day 7: LinkedIn voice note (a simple voice memo about wanting to be on the podcast)


That's it.

This does take a little bit to set up, but once it's set, you just have to add more podcasts.

Remember, making an impact in business always involves other people. So make it fun, be personable, and find ways to support them!
