Hello everybody, I would appreciate any advice you can give me about how to inform DID clients that what they are experiencing is called Dissociative Identity Disorder. In most cases, they have never heard of DID. If they don't panic at that point, since they are very intelligent, they go online and read up on DID and discover it was called MPD. These descriptions paint a scary picture of painful protracted therapy, just the opposite of my Then they are really scared. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Earl

5 年You can't prevent them from being scared. You can't prevent them from researching. You have no power or control, so give it up before you start. That will make it safer for clients to talk. Tell them that YOU THINK they MIGHT have DID. Explain YOUR concept to them. Tell them YOU THINK it would be better if they did not research online and tell them (if there are any) what sites or books you do recommend (including your own book) if they just can't protect themselves from researching. If you pray, pray for them, and yourself. If they pray, ask if they'd like to do so with you. It is comforting even to alters who do not believe. While abuse may have happened with the use of the name of Jesus or God or the Bible; that does not negate it, but you can ask the client, "IF there were a Loving Creator of the Universe, would" they "be interested in joining with" you "to talk to the Love?"
