Easy Pricing Strategy For Creatives.

Easy Pricing Strategy For Creatives.

Pricing your services as a creative is one of the most tricky things, you don’t want to charge too high or too low, you don’t want your client to go away and you are probably thinking you don’t deserve that amount you have in your mind, and trust me you have every right to have these thoughts, every super start creative you see today was once in your shoes. In my case, I found an easy way to charge for my services because house rent in Abuja is not cheap at all and Daddy wasn’t going to pay the house rent for me so, you get the gist.

I did a poll recently on Twitter and I realized a lot of people asked their friends for their price lists and probably replicated it, while that seems easy, it might not be the right move for you because

  1. Your friends might just be charging as the spirit leads and that is dangerous.
  2. Your friends don’t have the same needs as you, you both don’t have the same bills to pay.
  3. Your friends might not be dealing with the same clients as you.

Forget that whole saying about what your service is worth, that’s just big English causing unnecessary stress I have a simple pricing strategy/calculator that can help you this new year.

MY PRICING STRATEGY

  1. How much is your house rent?
  2. How much is your Electrical bill?
  3. How much do you spend on food?
  4. How many clients do you intend to have in a year? Think of the lowest number and please, do not say 2, have a little faith

Let’s create a fake number for these things

House rent = 200k

Electrical bill = 40k

Food per year = 360k

In total, you spend 600k

How many clients do you intend to have in a year = 10

Divide your total number by 10

600,000 / 10 = 60k

That’s how much you should charge every person that comes your way in 2021.

Don’t use my numbers, do your own calculations and use that to charge. You can put in your amount spent on data for the year, you can add the things you want to buy, say a MacBook pro or a ps5, Add as much as you want but please don’t go crazy with it, you need some level of confidence to charge a client 1 million naira.

I love the simplicity of this pricing method, but do you feel that this doesn't account for growth and profit? Surely these things needed to accounted for as well. Maybe consider "savings goals", and "cost of development". Just my two cents!
