Easy and Meaningful Ways to Show You’re Thankful
Expressing gratitude at work is important. When co-workers feel valued and appreciated, they work more cohesively to achieve common goals. Fortunately, expressing thanks can be done simply and inexpensively. Here are five easy and meaningful ways to show you’re thankful at work.
Send an Email
Send an email to your co-worker’s boss explaining how your co-worker went above and beyond the call of duty to help you out. For example, your co-worker may have helped you calm down an angry resident, or a maintenance worker may have plowed the parking lot multiple times during the night so that residents could get to work in the morning. Ensure you copy your co-worker on the email so they know about your praise. Their boss may even forward your email to others so they can express gratitude for your co-worker’s contributions.
Bring in a Treat
Whether it’s fresh coffee, bagels, cupcakes or another type of reward, your recipients will be thrilled you thought of them. Ensure you state the reason you want to say thank you. Perhaps a leasing agent set a new record for bringing in new residents in one month, or your maintenance team completed an especially challenging project before the deadline. Pointing out the reason for your thanks will encourage similar behaviors in the future.
Buy Your Co-Worker Lunch
Most individuals will jump at the chance to enjoy a complimentary meal. Let them choose a reasonably priced place to eat so you know they’ll enjoy it and it fits your budget. Be sure you state the specific reason you want to treat your co-worker so they’re more likely to help you again down the road.
Bring Back Something From Vacation
It may be seashells you picked up on the beach, a refrigerator magnet or gourmet candy from a local shop. Tailor the gift to your co-worker’s interests and taste. Let your co-worker know you were thinking of them when you were away and wanted to thank them for helping you out at work.
Create a Gratitude Wall
Put up a bulletin board in an area frequented by employees, such as a break room, and provide pens and papers for your co-workers to recognize each other’s work contributions. Ensure everyone mentions the person they’re thanking and what specifically they’re being thanked for. Include i individuals who aren’t typically thanked, such as those who process payroll or work in another behind-the-scenes role.
