During the early evening on Tuesday, 17 November 2020, a multi-cell storm ripped through parts of the Eastern Cape, leaving 3 people dead, more than 50 injured, and as many as 20 villages severely impacted. The storm, which was classified as an EF3 tornado by the South African Weather Service, destroyed everything in its path including homes, schools, places of worship, and vehicles.
The affected communities now find themselves in urgent need of shelter, plastic and corrugated sheeting, blankets, mattresses, clothing, food parcels, bottled water, hygiene- and dignity packs.
Gift of the Givers teams from Adelaide, the Free State, Graaff-Reinet, and Pietermaritzburg are en route carrying a range of supplies including water purification sachets given the drought and absence of clean water. PPE's will be distributed to the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital and Mthatha General Hospital.
