Do you want to attract more ghostwriting clients in your business?
Of course you do, it's why you became a ghostwriter.
Many ghostwriters focus primarily on building their writing portfolio. The better the portfolio, the more clients you will attract. Right? Almost. Being a ghostwriter during the Information Age has it's perks and challenges. For example, ghostwriting is popular and trendy if you're in the music industry. Most people are familiar with ghostwriters of hit songs by their favorite artist. On the other hand, ghostwriting is a competitive and crowded space online. Clients often confuse ghostwriters with freelancers. Similar, not exactly the same. Today, ghostwriting is apart of the Great Resignation movement. In a nutshell, more people want to earn more money and to work on their own scheduling. Thus, ghostwriting is an attractive opportunity.
There are a few books, podcast, and online courses on how to get started ghostwriting. If you're struggling to attract clients on your own, I'm going to share with you a easy and effective way to snag your next client. If you're stuck in a client rut or in between clients, this one tip will help you start to gain more bookings.
As a ghostwriter, it's important to be active on social media. Not just for promoting your services, liking your friends vacation photos, or following celeb trends. You could do all of that and not get any leads on your services. The easiest way to attract a ghostwriting client is to host a social gathering.
When people are in social settings that allow them to relax, have fun, and engage with other people they are easier to connect too. Have you ever attended a game night at your friends place? If so, I'm sure there were a few people there that you've never actually met. As in most social settings, people are always curious about three things :

Either of these questions help people to identify how you can help them in the present or future. Guess what? Most people are always seeking help with something regarding communication. It could be help with a resume and cover letter, social media captions, or the About Me page for their website. As a ghostwriter, you should always be listening for keywords to offer your services. In a social environment, you don't have to worry about coming off as salesy or inauthentic. You share a mutual connection. You're both interested in helping the other achieve a particular goal. You have acquired a new client over tacos and salsa dip.
Summer is rapidly approaching, it's time to book your calendar with social events. Networking events can feel like a lot of pressure for you to talk to a lot of people to sell your business. Find a few local events in your area that will allow you to feel comfortable and confident. The biggest lifeline for a ghostwriter is to continuously grow your network. More people, more opportunities.
Pro tip: Ask the event planner about their marketing and communications strategy. Oftentimes, the event planner or organizer are overwhelmed with tasks that they often miss opportune moments. Sometimes a little effort and initative could help you land a bigger client than you were anticipating.
