Is there an easier way to lead your nonprofit? The answer is...

Do you ever feel like you're falling short? That you aren't doing the right thing, talking in the right way, or being the "perfect leader?" Maybe not every day, but more days than you wish. I've been there too!??

Trying to Be the 'Right' Leader Left Me Exhausted

I'll be honest—there was a time when I thought being a strong leader meant having all the answers, never showing doubt, and leading the "right way." I kept thinking I had to fix every flaw and smooth over every imperfection so no one saw the true me underneath. But the more I tried to fit that mould, the more exhausted I became.??

  • I felt disconnected from my work, team, and, most importantly, myself. Ever the perfectionist, I sadly did not perfect anything! I just felt frumpy, dumpy and grumpy!
  • I didn't feel like myself wearing "business casual" clothes or trying to keep up the political conversation at the boardroom table.
  • Stressed and not taking care of myself, I was out of shape and overweight.
  • I was anything but happy. Instead, I was on antidepressants and took my mood out on everyone around me. I was overly directive with my staff, short with my kids and cranky with my husband.

Approximately 2003 - I wasn't at my best!

?

Finding My Strengths Changed Everything

Then, something changed. I stumbled across the VIA Character Strengths Provile and the Clifton Strengths Assessment. Getting the results of those two assessments was life-changing.

  • I felt seen ??
  • I felt validated ?
  • I felt a sense of possibility that I could be me and still get the results I wanted in my life and my work ????

I finally figured out how to use what I was already good at and use it to lead effectively.

After learning more about my strengths, I realized that the best leaders don't try to be perfect. They lead by embracing who they truly are, which starts with their strengths.

  • I learned how strong I am at growing others.
  • I discovered how my curiosity and desire to learn made me stronger.
  • I realized my eye for excellence didn't have to mean perfectionism.

I want you to feel that sense of empowerment too.

I want you to feel like you've been seen when you name and understand your strengths?? I want you to learn how to let your strengths help you see and love yourself in all your current glory.

? You do not have to be someone you aren't to lead.

? You do need to accept and maybe even love your strengths and use them every day in your leadership.

How to Align with Your Strengths and Lead Authentically

The key?is recognizing and using your strengths in ways that feel authentic. Here's how to do that:??

1?? Identify Your Signature Strengths

Tools like VIA Character Strengths help uncover your top strengths. In Leading from Strengths (starting in November), I'll walk you through your top VIA strengths and help you see how your strengths are

  • Essential: A core part of who you are.??
  • Effortless: They flow naturally and feel easy.??
  • Energizing: Using them uplifts and recharges you.??

* Taken from VIA Character: Strengths Basics

2?? Learn How to Leverage Your Strengths to Build Confidence

When you align your actions (like delegating, handling tough conversations, or running meetings) with your strengths, you feel more confident and reduce self-doubt.??

  • In this week's podcast, I share how using strengths like perseverance and relationship-building made me a more effective leader.

3?? Become a strength-based leader

Over time, by aligning more and more with your strengths, you'll ditch the stress of trying to be someone you're not and lead with confidence. Leading authentically builds trust with your team and helps you feel clear, confident, and aligned daily.??

?

YES! There is an easier way to lead.
