Hey Earthyvette fam!
It's hard to believe that 5 months have flown by since my partner and I arrived in the beautiful region of Asturias, Spain.
Moving to a new place is always an adventure, and Asturias has exceeded all my expectations.
Spring Awakening
I arrived in early April (2024), just as nature was bursting back to life.
The green hills were alive with wildflowers, and the air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming trees.
It was the perfect time to explore the charming streets of Aviles and discover hidden gems like the Paseo del Rio de la Magdalena, a walking path filled with lush greenery and vibrant flowers. Or one of the central parks like Parque de Ferrera.
A Walker's Paradise
One of the things I love most about Asturias is its walkability.
Whether I wanted to explore the historic center of Aviles, hike through the nearby mountains, or stroll along the picturesque coastline, there was always something to discover on foot.
Salinas Beach reminded us of some of the beaches in San Diego, California located in Ocean Beach and La Jolla; simply beautiful. We enjoyed many days of surfing and beach days while in San Diego.
During one of the several surf and music festivals in Salinas this summer, some hosts called Salinas "Salifornia" (a blend of Salinas and California). That was nice to hear.
Easy Access to the Best of Asturias
Asturias is also well-connected, making it easy to explore other beautiful cities in the region by public transportation.
I took day trips to Oviedo, the regional capital, and Gijón, a vibrant coastal city with stunning beaches.
A Foodie's Dream
Of course, no trip to Asturias would be complete without indulging in the delicious local cuisine.
I've had the pleasure of trying everything from fresh seafood to hearty stews (like Fabada Asturiana).
I even had the opportunity to experience the "Festival de la Sardina" (Sardine Festival) and the "Festival del Bonito" (Tuna Festival), where I feasted on delicious grilled fish and enjoyed the festive atmosphere while also enjoying the ocean view.
