Earthquakes around Askja continue as chess royalty gathers in Reykjavík!

Hello dear readers,

Below is new newscast we encourage you to check out! Valur goes through some of the news in Iceland for the last couple of days including an upcoming?chess tournament in Iceland?featuring some of the best chess players in the world.

In other news there has been some rather unusual seismic activity surrounding the enormous volcano Askja reaching its peak in an earthquake sized 4 on the Richter scale at Hereubreie mountain during the weekend.

Last eruption in Askja was in 1961 and was rather?harmless. In 1875 however there was a huge eruption there that laid waste to a number of farms in the north-east due to heavy ash and tephra-fall. So Askja can be a wild card when it comes to eruptions, but the seismic activity now does not necessarily indicate an impending eruption.

But you can read more about the increased activity near?Askja below along with more news from the last couple of days and we will keep you posted on any developments on our social media.

Until next time,
