Earth Day Story, with an AI Twist

Earth Day Story, with an AI Twist

Once upon a time, in a bustling corner of the universe, there was a planet called Earth. Now, Earth was a lovely place, adorned with shimmering oceans, majestic mountains, and forests teeming with life. But there was one little problem - Earth had a bit of an attitude. She was tired of being taken for granted by her inhabitants, and she decided it was time for some Earth Day mischief.

On the morning of Earth Day, while the humans were still in bed dreaming of saving the planet, Earth decided to play a prank. She sneaked up on a sleeping farmer and made his crops grow ten times their usual size overnight. When the farmer woke up and saw his enormous carrots and giant cabbages, he couldn't believe his eyes. He scratched his head, wondering if he'd accidentally planted magic beans instead of vegetables.

Meanwhile, in the bustling city, Earth had some more tricks up her sleeve. She caused all the traffic lights to turn green at once, sending cars zipping and zooming in every direction like a chaotic game of bumper cars. Pedestrians dodged and darted, trying to make it to their destinations without getting caught in the whirlwind of vehicular chaos.

But Earth wasn't done yet. She decided to have a little fun with the weather. She summoned a rainstorm of jellybeans, much to the delight of children and the confusion of weather forecasters. Streets were soon flooded with colorful candies, and people ran outside with buckets and baskets, trying to catch as many jellybeans as they could before they melted away.

As the day went on, Earth's antics continued. She turned the sun into a disco ball, casting dazzling lights and funky shadows across the land. Birds danced in the sky, and even the clouds couldn't help but groove along to the rhythm.

Finally, as the sun began to set, Earth decided it was time to come clean. She gathered all her inhabitants - humans, animals, and plants alike - and spoke to them with a rumble of thunder and a whisper of wind.

"My dear inhabitants," she said, her voice echoing through the air, "Earth Day is not just about saving the planet. It's about appreciating the beauty and wonder that surrounds us every day. So, let's work together to take care of this magnificent home of ours, and remember to always find joy in the little surprises along the way, long before booms spells doom."

Note: The above text was generated by Chat GPT3.5, with the storyline as a prompt and then introducing a few expressions, like “boom spells doom” to break the monotony. The AI content detectors were able to analyze and state with confidence that the above text was indeed written by AI. AI content detectors are themselves AI models and their performance depends on the training data. For us, humans, to detect AI generated text there are a few guidelines like:

1.??????? Repetition of words, expressions, or phrases

2.??????? General lack of depth in concepts and emotions

3.??????? Possible inaccuracies in facts/information owing to outdated data in the models

4.??????? Consistent format and structure with no error

I tried something very interesting and ran the following piece of text written by a contemporary maestro of the language, Mr. Shashi Tharoor, by the AI tool.

“As the world contemplates the dizzying ascent of Artificial Intelligence and what it will mean for workers everywhere, here’s a cautionary tale of how technology enabled and destroyed a sunrise industry in the 21st century. Medical transcription, the process of converting dictated medical reports into written format, witnessed significant growth in India at the cusp of the millennium. With the fibre-optic cables laid across the globe in the 1990s, a new business became possible. American doctors had to dictate their notes to a secretary, pay her overtime, put up with mistakes, and cope with absences for leave and illness. Dictating to transcribers overseas over the internet was both cheaper and more efficient in generating timely medical documentation. India boasted a vast pool of educated individuals proficient in English and possessing strong typing skills, as well as a willingness to adapt to technology. Indian transcription companies offered competitive pricing without compromising on quality, making India an attractive option for offshore outsourcing.”

One of the AI detection tools said that it was 74% confident that the text was AI-generated (this result might be different after sometime as the model learns further). Now that’s something interesting! All you need is an excellent command over the language to make the AI models hallucinate!

Whether we can detect AI-generated text/picture/video or not, whether AI is becoming a 'naturalized' way to generate content or not, we humans need to care for our only natural habitat without which we won't exist, unless, of course, we find an 'artificial' home few thousand light-years across the galaxy!

Well written post! The beginning of the post took me to the story of 'Farmer and the Imp' which I had read in my school days only to later realize Gen AI always has a story up it sleeve.. Good suggestions for keeping the human personalization touch live, to add; a well written Gen AI narrative can always accommodate a self-induced obvious spelling error (or two) to make it natural.. ??
