Earth Day Special - Part 1

I will briefly explain what Earth Day is, it's mission and also how you can take part. As always The Sustainable Breakfast will focus on the most important part of sustainability, YOU!

Then in Part 2, I will give away some of the strategies our Fortune Global 500 customers are using drive engagement and show you how easy it is to start your own campaigns for Earth Month and beyond so stay tuned and enjoy!

What is Earth Day? - To YOU

Being new to sustainability I have learnt lots of cool new things in a short space of time. For example, what are scope 3 emissions, what is ESG, what does SDG, GIR, TCFD or even CSRD even mean? These are just a few conundrums I had to decipher in order know what challenges the archetypal Sustainability Leader in a Fortune Global 500 organization is faced with.

However, during my personal reading there was always one thing that would invariably pop up in my searches and that thing is called Earth Day. If you type into your search engine “key environmental dates” no doubt Earth Day will feature near, if not at the top of the list.

According to EARTHDAY.ORG. , Earth Day is a mission to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. The hope is eventually we will not even have to think about the environment, taking action will simply be part of everyday living.

Growing out of the first Earth Day in 1970, EARTHDAY.ORG is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 150,000 partners in over 192 countries to drive positive action for our planet. Earth Day gives a monumental effort toward the environment since 1970 mobilizing a staggering 1 billion individuals for environmental causes. In 2023 Earth Day takes place on April 22nd and many organizations will take part in Earth Month across the whole of April. It inspired me to write this edition as I think that is something worth shouting about.

Now with everything said those numbers are impressive however, what does that mean to YOU as a Sustainability Leader or individual hoping to make a difference tomorrow. How can you do your part as the world transitions towards sustainable living.?

Be a Trailblazer!

One thing I learnt about working in sustainability is that it is not that hard to act, everyone can do it, it just requires YOU to take the lead, you to be a trailblazer. There are countless initiatives you can take together with or without the assistance of Earth Day. EARTHDAY.ORG make it practical and easy for you with a vast range of toolkits from being Plastic Free , Climate Literacy or even Bee Keeping if you are braver than I am!

We also have several solutions at CO2HERO . Our most popular and fun solution comes in the form of climate challenges. Remember, trailblazers are those that set the path for others so make sure you take the first step. Let your colleagues know you are doing something positive like counting the energy you saved from recycling, going meatless for a week or whatever challenge you feel is inspiring and you can accomplish. Every action you take will have a positive reaction for your environment.?
