The Earth Conscious Update for August
ProEarth ZeroWaste
??Composting & Zero Waste experts?? ??15K households/day, 300Tons/month diverted from landfills!?? ??Waste to forests??
As India completed 75 years of independence, ProEarth celebrated the spirit of tricolor by engaging with over 50 societies, as part of it's program with Environmental Synergies in Development (ENSYDE) to spread awareness on E-waste over July and August.
Through this engagement, we have been able to collect and streamline approximately 2 MT of E-waste, and send it for authorised recycling (as prescribed by Pollution Control Board). Companies such as Concentrix and Prayas (Energy Group), Pune joined us in amplifying this along with housing societies.
As people gathered their waste, we also addressed many concerns that came with e-waste - for example, what happens to the e-waste when it is sent to recycling? How are difficult things like PCB recycled. In addition, to this - we also conducted in person awareness where our team explained different processes involved in recycling.
This was also an exiting month on Home Composting. Anil Gokarn is involved with the CSR project that is supported by Bharat Forge Ltd and implemented by INORA. The project - 'My Waste, My responsibility' looks at 500 families i.e. 2000 people who will compost their wet waste in situ through Composter Planters. The composter Planter, aptly named Bakasur - never fills up, as it constantly supplies the plants with nutrition - making this a value addition to not just the waste management, but also access to health. Bakasur has also been installed at Ward Office at Hadapsar, as a model for home composting.
If there's one thing we love - we enjoy talking to young minds. They give us the opportunity to think, and rethink our work, making it relevant to the next generation. Talking to students from Maharashtra Education Society's Abasaheb Garware College of Arts and Science, Pune 04 , we spoke about the challenges and opportunities in waste, we left the audience with some 'waste' for thought through our interactive presentation.
The alumnus meeting with 德国亚琛工业大学 had Anil discussing plans on paving way for a sustainable future. Waste management plays a key role in building climate resilience and prevention of landfills.

Proving that point on the dot, we are happy that 200+ households have signed up for our community composting service - and that means another 150 kgs of wet waste is diverted from the landfill everyday! Composting wet waste has many benefits - cleans up the spaces immediately, and reaffirms segregation at source. It also improves the value of dry waste or recyclables as it eliminates food contamination. Our model is simple focuses on working with nature, and reduce operational costs, making waste management a financially viable action in the long run.
Camp Temghar, an agro tourism spot in Mulshi also begins composting of their wet waste thanks to our team's dedication of managing waste! We love keeping vacations responsible, and more importantly leave no damage to the ecosystem surrounding such serene places. Connecting every possible will to action, through services continues to be ProEarth's mission.
To amplify the need for composting, we are also launching a program to enable more builders incorporate 'Zero Waste Principles' at the design phase of their structures. The training program is all set to happen on 14th and 15th September. The 2 day workshop will include hands on designing with blueprints along with site visits to move to more nature based solutions that are simple, effective and low on operational costs. Visit this link to know more, and register about the training program.
As we sign off for this month, we echo and welcome 'Vighnaharta' - Lord Ganesha in our homes - we kickstart a campaign with another eco-conscious brand - Truly Desi . Stay tuned for more updates in the coming month.
