Earnings transparency - a pipe dream or the gold standard?

Earnings transparency - a pipe dream or the gold standard?

According to the Pracuj Group’s report Two Years in the New Normal, salary transparency in a job description is an important factor in the decision to apply for a job offer for 44% of candidates. Still, many employers defend the company's salary confidentiality. Are they rightly so??

The European Parliament is working on new legislation requiring employers to provide candidates with salary information for the position they are applying for. Currently, salary disclosure is still not a standard in Poland. Employers often hide behind salary confidentiality. It refers to the prohibition on releasing information about the salaries of specific employees. However, it does not prevent the publication of salary ranges in job offers.?

Why publish salary spreads in job offers?

Publishing the expected salary in a job offer has a positive effect on a company's employer branding; it shows that it takes both its potential and current employees seriously. It is a sign of respect to the candidate, who, when changing jobs, needs to know how to spread the budget for the next month. It can also testify to the company's financial health. The salary range attracts the eye and interest of the candidate. In addition, such an announcement saves time for both the recruiter and candidates, as it sifts out those whose salary does not suit them at the start.?

Threats from salary disclosure?

On the other hand, not disclosing the expected salary puts the hirer in a better position when it comes to negotiations. He can thus hire a new person for less than he expected. This is especially true in cases where the candidate has little experience or is desperate to find a job.?

If the salary the company can afford is relatively low, this may discourage candidates from applying.

Summary

For many employers, the only factor that prompts them to disclose a salary range in a job offer is the requirements of job portals. Often, however, the range is so wide that it tells the candidate virtually nothing. Disclosing the fork is a gesture of respect to the potential employee, having a positive impact on employer branding and candidate experience. However, depending on the financial health of the company and the industry, it may involve some risk, so it's worth considering this step and leaving it to your conscience.?
