Earning trust in times of uncertainty
The Reinharts examine damage on their Iowa farm

Earning trust in times of uncertainty

It seems like the only thing that is certain about 2020 is its uncertainty. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting disruptions in trade, travel and business interactions are just the beginning. The unprecedented weather events and damage to equipment and grain storage in the Midwest over the past few weeks have made things more challenging for many farmers and ag businesses.

The historic derecho damaged millions of crop acres across Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. We won’t see the total impact until harvest, but the initial reports from many areas are grim. The damage to grain storage facilities and infrastructure and ongoing power outages only add to the disruption. Ag is hard work in the best of times, but when uncertainty hits, it’s more important to know there are people you can count on.

Field agronomist Ryan Clayton and Sales Representative Brian Reinhart examine the field

Our agronomy and field teams reacted quickly. Corteva agronomists and field teams have been in the fields since the storm hit – working side by side with our customers helping to assess the impact of the storms on their farms, including helping customers evaluate crop management decisions for the remaining season. This includes harvest planning and exploring salvage options such as taking corn for silage versus grain. There are several factors that will contribute to these decisions including crop health, stage of crop development, available harvest equipment and local marketing options. Our teams are bringing tools and knowledge to help give trusted advice.

I couldn’t be prouder of our teams – and of the farmers we serve. It’s times like these that bring out the best in people and showcase the important role that agriculture has in every facet of our lives – from putting food on our tables, to the clothing we wear and fueling our cars.

Thanks to each of you for giving your best every day!
