Earn your sleep
Often my oldest son Frank tells me “I’m not tired.”
And our recent response has been “you need to earn your sleep.”
Sometimes he looks at us, puzzled.?
And other times he laughs and repeats some gibberish version of our response.?
But the lesson remains.
In the wake of our recent family grieving, we’ve needed to earn our sleep.
So today, in light of what we are working through as a family, we placed a day where we all worked together outside, planting trees and shrubs in our front yard.
It was hot. It was hard work. And it was…
Healing.?
I often forget how great a day of outdoor work is for the soul.
And today, we got to get out in the hot sun, improve our yard, and troubleshoot things as a family.?
“Earning sleep” might sound a little harsh to some…
And I don’t personally know anyone who puts in a hard day's work and has the time, the mental bandwidth to complain.?
So that’s what we’ll be doing while we process some of the changes in our home.?
We’ll be earning the sleeps.
