Earn $40 for Every $1 You Spend With Email Marketing

Here are 4 tips to help you write better emails

You have plenty of channels to choose from when you want to reach your audience. But for many marketers, it’s one of the oldest channels that drives the best results.

Email might seem outdated, but it’s far from irrelevant. In fact, according to Oberlo, it offers a 400% return on investment, far more than social media and PPC ads.

But that doesn’t mean every email will make you money. You have to craft the right message if you want to earn those kinds of results.

Luckily, we’re here to help. Here are four tips for writing high-converting emails.

It all starts with the subject line

In order for an email to generate sales it needs to be opened, and that requires an enticing subject line.

Here’s what we’ve found works well for email subject lines:

  • Incorporate urgency, curiosity, or special offers to get people’s attention.
  • Use [ ] to highlight something important at the start of the subject line. For example [Special Offer].
  • Be unique and try saying something unexpected.
  • Keep it short. If your subject line is any more than 60 characters you risk your text getting cut off.

Consider testing multiple subject lines so you can start to get a sense of what your audience responds to.

Send personalized content

People are more likely to engage with your emails if the message appears to be just for them. You can achieve this by segmenting your email list.

Create different lists for different kinds of leads. For example, you could create a list for each lead magnet you offer. That way, you can tailor the content you send to the unique problem each of your leads is trying to solve.

According to Campaign Monitor, segmenting your campaigns like this can result in a 760% increase in revenue.

Keep it short

If there’s one thing the internet has done for us, it’s shortened our attention spans.

Your audience doesn’t want to open their inbox and read a novel. They want to get your message and move on with their day. So, it’s important to get to the point quickly.

Keep your emails to no more than 200 words, and make sure your offer or story is summed up early so readers don’t lose interest.

Finish with a strong call to action

You don’t want all your emails to be a hard sell. However, every message you send should have some sort of CTA, whether that be to check out a blog post, join your Facebook group, or fill out a survey.

In addition to including your CTA at the end of the email, you can also place it in the body of the email near the beginning of your message. That way, if someone doesn’t read the whole email they could still click your link.
