EAMU WILL EMPOWER AFRICANS TO CREATE WEALTH BY ADDING VALUE TO AFRICA'S NATURAL RESOURCES
The late Walter Rodney famously wrote in " How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, " that Africa consumes what it does not produce and produces what it does not consume. While producing, consuming goods and services, and creating wealth are not the sole purposes of a good education, it is indefensible why Africa should still export raw materials and import expensive finished goods when hundreds of millions of citizens remain impoverished. Entrepreneurship and innovation are at the heart of what we will teach and learn at EAMU as the continent faces the challenges of climate change, poverty, youth unemployment, diseases, dependency on foreign aid, and the triple crises of water, energy, and food. The EAMU community will lead in promoting regional and intra-African trade, research and development, good governance, the rule of law, preventing conflict and insecurity, and championing sustainable development.
