Eagles vs. Drones - Old Fashioned Solution

Wow this is an elegantly simple solution to drones at airports. Using eagles to protect 747s from drones. Such an old fashioned solution to a high tech problem. The use of falconry for hunting goes back to the middle ages.

I love the irony. The eagle as a symbol of freedom, protecting us from the tyranny of an overzealous government always looking for new ways to spy on its citizenry.

Unfortunately, this is a bad solution. As a pilot with over 2,000 hours, the one thing I fear are ignorant three pound birds arriving in my flight path. "Birds and Planes" and "Birds and Drones" don't mix. "BIRDS/PLANES/DRONES" is a terrible combination. The bottom line is simple, drone production will easily exceed the number of trained eagles in the world. Least we forget that at some time, all those sharp, spinning rotors will take their toll on the poor eagles. I suggest you read my novel, INDEFENSIBLE -- about weaponized micro-drones in the hands of embedded terrorists. I believe you will find it an eye-opener. INDEFENSIBLE in paper is available in back or Kindle from Amazon https://goo.gl/DRPJTh Be well, Thomas Banks, CEO SplashPlay, Inc. Author of INDEFENSIBLE

Great example of using Biomimicry and nature to solve a real world problem. The use of Eagles, our national bird and a protected species, raises some interesting ethical questions though.
