Eagles Special Olympics Athletics club paid a visit to iCare’s very own Santa’s Gatelodge. The Christmas extravaganza currently ran by Milford based charity iCare, saw athletes from the Eagles team embark on the spectacular journey through a tour destined to make even the very Grinch scream Merry Christmas.
Santa’s Gatelodge is an initiative set up by iCare to raise much needed funds for the charity, by putting on a display of Christmas cheer for all those who attend. The tour which currently operates in the run up to Christmas takes its guests on a journey through Milford’s 130 year old Gatelodge, making time to meet Mrs Claus, The Fairy God Mother and of course, making a wish at the magical Christmas tree before meeting the main man himself…Santa Claus. The tour designed to cater for all ages aims to spread Christmas spirit throughout the community by involving local volunteers and encouraging those who attend to give it their best Christmas song sing a long.
iCare invited the Eagles Special Olympics athletics club too attend the Gatelodge and the evening saw aspiring athletes of the group, embark on the journey that is, all things Christmas. The athletes took a night away from their training to enjoy pizza and drinks because after all, it is the season of sharing happiness and good will and sometimes that comes in a round shaped dough with added pepperoni – sport lovers or not. The athletes enjoyed a gift from Santa at the end of their tour as well as the presentation of a cheque for £2,500 which was funds raised by the staff of Homecare Independent Living. The monetary donation will form part of a fundraising campaign designed to raise a total of £9,000 needed to compete in the National Games next summer. We wish Eagles Special Olympics team every success in their fundraising efforts and for the National Games in summer 2018.
