The Eagle and the Beetle

The eagle swept down, hurtling like a projectile towards the hare that hopped on for its dear life. There was nowhere to escape. Finally, out of breath, the hare hid near a rock and saw a beetle. It begged the beetle to save its life. The beetle agreed. As the eagle came swooping down like a missile, the beetle stood in the way and said, “Stop, you eagle. Don’t you dare touch this hare. It is under my protection.”

The eagle was so very intent on the hare that it swept aside the beetle with one of its wings, clutched the hare with its talons, and tore it wide open with its wickedly sharp beak. The beetle was enraged to see the eagle ignoring it and eating the hare. It knew that it could not fight against the mighty eagle. So, it waited.

And planned.

Soon enough, the eagle laid an egg. The beetle noticed this, flew up to the nest when the eagle was not there, and pushed the egg down. The eagle was dismayed to see the broken egg. But it was frightened when its egg kept falling and breaking every day. It finally flew to Jupiter, the Protector of Eagles, and asked him to keep its eggs safe.

Jupiter agreed and kept the egg on his lap. The count of eggs increased. The beetle thought hard and came up with a plan. It rolled dirt the size of an eagle’s egg and dropped it on Jupiter’s lap. Disgusted with the dirt and forgetting the eggs on his lap, Jupiter got up to clear the dust. The eggs were dashed on the ground, broken.

Being cruel and heartless against the weak will not always benefit the strong. The weak will come back strong one day, to avenge. It is advisable to be impartial and not to insult anyone.

Insult none, hurt none.
