The NIS2 Directive, Who It Affects, and How to Prepare?

The NIS Directive is legislation designed to enhance cybersecurity practices in Member States across the EU, and was incorporated into national law in October 2024.?

NIS2 applies to all companies in the EU with 50+ employees, an ARR of €10 million+, and who deliver essential services to the European economy and society. It requires companies to “implement appropriate and proportionate technical and organisational measures to mitigate the risks posed to the security of network and information systems,” commented access control provider Okta . Security incidents must also be reported to relevant authorities.?Non-compliance could result in fines of up to €10MM or 2% of global annual revenue.

A critical component of the Directive requires?affected bodies to investigate their software supply chains more thoroughly. Software Asset Management technology will be a critical preparation component. Investigating vendors will require a complete and accurate inventory of software products used across an organization. The NIS2 Directive will make SAM technology a must-have, placing it definitively in the sights of companies with 50 employees and up.???
