Welcome to E3Round up! Each month we'll be deep-diving into a specific topic and how it affects (or assists) the industries we recruit across.

For stress awareness month we're looking into the results of the poll we ran on Linkedin, what employers can do to reduce stress in your teams, the importance of creating a positive work Culture in manufacturing, how you as an employee can cope with stress and how E3 Recruitment works closely with employers to assess how engaged their teams are.

We asked, YOU answered

For stress awareness month, we conducted a survey on Linkedin asking; 'On a scale of 1 to 4, how would you rate your current stress levels at work?". From our poll, we found out that:

?? 37% said their stress was moderate.

?? 25% had low-stress levels

?? 24% had very high stress levels

?? 15% said their stress levels were high.

So, what can you as an employer do to reduce stress in your teams?

Lead by example - Taking regular breaks and booking annual leave will not only put you in a better frame of mind, but it will also show your employees that it’s okay to take some time out.

Introduce workplace wellness schemes - Employee wellness schemes, such as arranging for a discount at local gyms for your employees help them to unwind and feel better about themselves.

Communicate with your employees - Keeping employees up to date regarding changes, expectations and their performance not only keeps them on track but also reduces feelings of stress and anxiety.

Address work place stressors - Providing resources and training on time management, workload prioritisation, and stress reduction techniques can also help employees manage their workload and reduce stress.

It's clear that workplace stress is a significant concern for employers and employees alike. At E3 Recruitment, we're dedicated to supporting employers in addressing this issue. Let's work together to create environments where both employers and employees can thrive.

Creating a Positive Work Culture in Manufacturing: Tips for Reducing Stress and Boosting Productivity

Stress is an unavoidable aspect of work, and the manufacturing industry in the UK is no exception. However, in recent years, employees have made great strides in protecting their well-being by mitigating areas of their lives that don’t align with their needs and wants.

Employers have also been proactive in offering more modern workplace environments. Despite these efforts, work-related stress, depression, or anxiety remains a significant challenge in manufacturing, with some of the highest rates across all industries.

Industries such as aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries are often associated with high-stress work environments due to the intricate and safety-critical nature of their operations.

For instance, the aviation sector demands meticulous attention to detail and strict adherence to safety regulations, resulting in high-pressure situations for employees. Similarly, the pharmaceutical industry is heavily regulated, with strict requirements to ensure product quality and safety, which can also contribute to elevated stress levels.

Other factors that may contribute to a stressful work environment in the manufacturing industry include long working hours, tight production schedules, and high-stakes production targets. Additionally, the use of heavy machinery and potentially hazardous materials in manufacturing can add to the stress levels of workers.

How to manage stress in the manufacturing industry and support your colleagues:

  • Prioritise communication
  • Create a positive work environment
  • Promote work-life balance
  • Address workplace safety concerns
  • Provide access to resources and support
  • Encourage social support

Stress in manufacturing

How can you as an employee help to relieve your stress in the workplace?

Coping with stress in the workplace is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and performance. Here are some strategies employees can employ to manage stress:

Identify Stressors

Understand what triggers your stress at work. It could be deadlines, workload, difficult coworkers, or other factors. Once you identify these stressors, you can work on addressing them directly.

Time Management

Organise your tasks and prioritise them based on urgency and importance. Break larger tasks into smaller, more manageable ones. Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique (working for a set amount of time, then taking short breaks) to maintain focus and avoid burnout.

Set Boundaries

Learn to say no when your plate is full. Establish boundaries between work and personal life to prevent overworking and burnout.

Stay Active

Regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress levels and improve mood. Incorporate physical activity into your routine, whether it's going for a walk during lunch breaks or going to the gym after work.

Seek Support

Talk to a trusted colleague, friend, or supervisor about your stressors. Sometimes, simply sharing your feelings can provide relief. If necessary, consider seeking professional help from a counsellor or therapist.

Take Breaks

Don't underestimate the power of taking short breaks throughout the day. Stepping away from your desk, even for a few minutes, can help clear your mind and reduce stress.

Remember, it's essential to take proactive steps to manage stress before it becomes overwhelming. By incorporating these strategies into your daily routine, you can better cope with stress in the workplace and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
