E-PORTS Crew Column|Trainee Motorman: First Time on Board, Excited and Hopeful
Recently,we have interviewed two trainees of crew members on board. They are all just graduated from marine engineering major. One of them is Xiao Pan who just has finished his first voyage. The other is Xiao Jiang who is ready for sailing ship for the first time in life. Both of them are full of infinite longing for the sea with excitement and hope.
Xiao Pan: The original intention of getting on board was simple, but the Crew management company gave me the warmth of family
Last year, he just graduated from the Marine Engineering?major in Bohai University and he chose to work on board without hesitation. When people asked why he study this major, he said, " The original intention to learn marine engineering is very simple. I come from rural areas and my family condition is not superior. However, when the uncles in the village worked on board, they bought car and house in a short time. So I think this is a good way to change living environment in a short time. When I chose my major, I chose the major which could work on board. Although I am just a junior trainee now, there is a big dream in my heart. Don't look down on me!Becoming a chief engineer is my ultimate dream!

After graduation, Pan took the Seafarers' Certificate of Competency and signed a contract with a famous maritime service company in Dalian. Then he truly became a sailor. "When I got on board,I was very excited but a little worried that I wouldn't be able to help. The considerate leader saw our confusion and uncertainty. In the morning team meeting, he made detailed arrangements for our work and encouraged us "Don't rush to get started. Try to see how other people do. Start from getting familiar with tools. You must pay attention to evaluate their own safety and the surrounding environment. No one can do everything in the beginning". Under the guidance of senior engineers, I gradually joined in the maintenance work. In the beginning, I did not know what to do. I could not find the right tools. I would take the wrong materials, but now I gradually kept up with the pace of work.
"This internship has taught me a lot. I have gained a great understanding of life at sea. I want to show my thanks to the captain, the chief engineer and seniors in the cabin for their recognition of my work. I will strive to master more knowledge and skills in the future work and prove my own value, so as to better serve the company!"
At a business level, Pan has been on duty independently. He can carry out equipment and instrument inspection, eliminate the alarm of machinery and equipment, timely communicate with the bridge and other work. At a life level, he is also trying to adjust his state. Although he is very excited when he just gets on board, he has physical discomfort caused by the winds of waves in the Indian Ocean as well. However, after the captain's concern and his own adjustment, he quickly adapted to the life on board. The chef would prepare dinner for everyone at the end of the week. The whole boat of more than 20 brothers are like a family with fun and happiness.

Xiao Jiang: I will get on board in early September and look forward to the day when I become a chief engineer.
Xiao Jiang is a post-00s. This year he just graduated from Dalian Maritime University. His family members are crew members for generations. Since childhood, he is full of yearning for the crew. As the only son of his home, his family is reluctant to let him live far away from the land. However,?with a strong "sailor dream",?he eventually persuaded his parents.?He is?ready to embark?with ambition.

In fact, in his junior year, Xiao Jiang once lived on a ship for a short time. At that time, he was an intern organized by the school. He practiced and learned on the school's internship ship for a month. The process of learning is both exhausting and full of joy.
I followed the teacher to patrol and inspect carefully during the duty and accumulated experience from a series of work, such as how to detect and perceive equipment abnormalities, the use of alarm system and the handling of daily alarms. The average temperature of the cabin is 40℃. Just standing will make you sweat. Under such circumstances, the engineer devoted himself to studying his own equipment, repair and maintenance. I learned what it means to be dedicated.?Everyone in the engine department should clear the division of labor and work together to solve problems quickly and correctly so as to ensure the safety of navigation. Let me feel what is the joy of success. Therefore, this successful internship experience makes me yearn for becoming a sailor. To be a chief engineer is my direction of efforts. We hope that in the near future, Jiang can grow up quickly and become a chief engineer!
A soldier who doesn't want to be a general is not a good soldier; a motorman who doesn't want to be a chief engineer is only a motorman. Both the chief engineer and the motorman are the crew members of the ship. They are one of the many posts on the ship and the ship is composed of these posts, regardless of large and small. The whole ship works together to make every great voyage!
