E-Mobility - The Way Ahead

E-Mobility - The Way Ahead

Developing a Sustainable E-Mobility Ecosystem

Horses to Fossil Fuels to Electric! Mobility solutions have undergone a lot of changes and its not just the engine. The whole ecosystem needs to be considered, reimagined and constructed from scratch.

The future of transportation can be electric but it’s not going to be just an engine swap. Developing a robust e-mobility ecosystem is key to achieving a sustainable, efficient and eco-friendly world.

This shift involves more than just producing electric vehicles (EVs); it requires a holistic approach to infrastructure, policy and consumer engagement.

1.Infrastructure Development: When vehicles ran on animal muscles, we had stables, pillars outside bars to hook horses. Then it was fuel stations. In the 1990’s & 2000’s, Indian Oil & Gas PSUs had a mad rush to build more and more pumps.

The EV ecosystem would require building extensive and reliable charging networks. It’s not just about installing fast-charging stations in urban and rural areas. Considering the redistribution of energy demands one would need to integrate smart grids to manage energy demand effectively.

2.Technological Innovation: cars remained a luxury till Henry Ford said “Any colour as long as it is black” and started assembly line manufacturing to reduce costs. Indian automobile sector was helped a great deal by Maruti 800, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Honda CD 100.

Advancements in battery technology, energy storage & renewable energy sources are fundamental. These innovations will enhance the efficiency and affordability of EVs, making them more accessible to the masses. I am also hopeful that fuel & hydrogen vehicles will enter series production soon.

3.Consumer Engagement: so many people talk about range anxiety. Majority of people drive their 4 wheelers less than 40-50 km a day. The commuter segment dominates Indian 2 wheeler sales and there too the daily usage is about the same. A large number of EVs being sold right now have enough range to last a week of usage.

It is thus important to educate and engage consumers about the benefits of e-mobility. Providing information on cost savings, range anxiety, misinformation & smear campaigns and the latest advancements can accelerate adoption rates. Let’s also be clear, high end EVs are purchased for their novelty & performance while the mass market buys for the savings. If you think people will buy EVs purely on their environmental impact, you couldn’t be more wrong.

4. Reimagining the supply chain & distribution systems: Electricity is a consumable for EVs. If the electricity is produced from non-renewable energy sources, like coal, it defeats the environmental impact E-mobility is intended to bring. Solar, Wind & other renewable sources need to be considered. Less wear & tear and much less engine parts mean the suppliers & OEMs need to be managed properly.

Distribution points would need a complete overhaul. A traditional automobile dealer depends on servicing & spares for its profits. That is not how EV dealers can expect to make money. A more Phy-Digital approach needs to be imagined and implemented. Luckily, some pure play EV manufacturers are already thinking and executing on these lines. The existing automobile giants need to strategically think about the weight of the legacy they carry.

5. Collaboration Across Sectors: Successful e-mobility ecosystems require collaboration between automakers, tech companies and energy providers. Working together ensures a cohesive strategy that addresses all aspects of the transition.

By focusing on these key areas, we can create an e-mobility ecosystem that not only meets current transportation needs but also paves the way for a cleaner, greener future. It will require coming together of many of us for betterment of all of us.

Let's drive the change toward sustainable mobility together!

Thanks Kaustubh ji, for highlighting the EV sector with your strong Muscle power. Electric Vehicles eg. 2W, 3W, 4W and E- Buses are going to be the future rides in India and the World. Remember one thing, without having sufficient EV charging infrastructure the above will not be possible. This is very much essential for the growth and sustainability. EVC Global Mobility Private Limited is building an ecosystem of EV charging stations across India and expansion programs to many countries. We provide comprehensive support for setting up EV charging stations across. We're a leader in Mobile App 95k+ installations, AC / DC super smart fast Chargers for Home and Commercial usage. Cloud based real-time monitoring 24X7 CPMS, etc.. EVC Global invites like minded individuals who see the future into the EV Sector. EVC Global has a brighter future in terms of commercial success.
