Education plays a crucial role in each individual’s social and economic development process. The way people learn has evolved.
Today, digital learning brought benefits such as the development of fundamental skills at lower costs and without geographical limitations.
There’s no doubt that the new technologies and information era boom has been changing the education sector over the last few years, both in and outside the schools. It changed the way people learn, the teachers’ methodologies and it even had an impact on the communication with parents. Today, the range of possibilities provided by the digital ecosystem and by the information technologies promotes an anchored, quicker, high-quality learning with safety, equality, and inclusion.
As a matter of fact, the investment that the education sector has been making towards digital technologies turned into an advantage to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic situation, by promoting the need to use tools that were already there, but up until now had little use, and also by developing new ways of communicating, learning and getting along with others. This digital boost promoted the adoption - past, present, and future - of tools like LMS (Learning Management Systems), cloud-based technologies, digital educational material, interactive boards, and even mobile devices in the classrooms, among others.
Over the past few years, the technological advancements empowered to increase the teaching-learning relationship by using tools that surpassed physical and time barriers, getting out of the conventional classroom and creating virtual classes anywhere, from any device and at convenient times. As a matter of fact, the digital teaching tools exponentially boosted the use of e-learning across the world. There was a clear transformation of the traditional teaching, enabling the appearance of specific online programmes and courses provided by, more or less reputable, education institutions. This encourages continuous learning during one’s life course and brings benefits such as the development of crucial skills at lower costs since students won’t have any extra housing, travel, or physical learning material expenses for instance.
Today, education is, more than ever before, a hybrid and supportive model of teacher and computer. Also, digital education has an additional benefit in its DNA: it is as much democratic as it is agnostic. It’s accessible to practically everyone, it diminishes the age gap, it’s gender blind, it has a global reach, it boosts networking as never before, and it promotes the transfer of knowledge.
This transformation and the consequent reduction of prejudice towards online learning is, for example, expressed in the fact that nowadays even the Ivy League Universities have in their portfolio an extensive range of online programmes.
However, this reality isn’t applied to the general public. Versatility and flexibility are other benefits that boost the adoption of e-learning or learning mobility in the academic and business sectors since the learning pattern might be personalized to meet the needs of teachers and students. In the business area, in which a learning culture has been adopted not only as a competitive advantage towards competitors, but also as a tool for luring and retaining talent, distance learning is the new reality. With the possibility of a mobile, interactive, and engaging learning experience, corporations all across the world are choosing this option as a solution, encouraging their employees to adopt digital learning.
At London School of Design & Marketing (LSDM), we believe and advocate a high-quality superior education for all that is affordable and doesn’t have any physical barriers. Established in 2016 as a 100% digital school focused in Design and Marketing, where contents are taught in three languages (English, Spanish, and Portuguese), we reach the whole world and provide 6 courses (two BA’s, two MA’s, and two short courses) to students of over 85 nationalities. Being experts in Design and Marketing, two areas with a high demand in the job market, we believe that we’re helping to change the learning and job market paradigm by providing a completely groundbreaking and creative learning experience for people and businesses.
Digital education is today a powerful networking tool. It brings people from different ecosystems together, promoting the transfer of knowledge between them at a faster, personalized, and sustained pace. It builds cybernetic bridges over pen and paper. It unites instead of dividing, it e-ducates, in an online environment.
