Episode 270 - November 1st, 2023

Selling Your Business - EBITDA is "Bullshit Earnings" - With Scott Jennings

In this episode of The Pipeline Podcast, Scott shares the basics of selling your construction business. As usual, Scott does it from a firsthand basis, having explored this process himself with his own company. EBITDA and various valuation methods play a role, but even this hard number is subjective. Finding a buyer can be done by approaching competitors, selling to employees, or using a merger and acquisition company. The costs of selling, including financial scrutiny and professional fees, are highlighted. Preparing for a sale requires clean books, diversified clients, technology upgrades, and a strong management team in place. The selling process can take 45 days to six months. Scott also mentions his current company’s involvement in matchmaking for buyers and sellers.

I hope you find this episode as informative and as exciting as we have. Please let us know your thoughts about the episode!
