Dysphagia and Fibromyalgia | How Are They Connected

What is Fibromyalgia and why should SLPs care? Fibromyalgia is a chronic painful rheumatic disease characterized by abnormal pain regulation. This painful disease occurs primarily in women. Unfortunately, the cause or mechanisms of Fibromyalgia isn’t clearly understood because of the lack of definitive pathologic lesions. Stick around as I talk about the two common swallowing issues fibromyalgia can lead to and what SLPs can do about it!
