October is a significant month for raising awareness about a common and often misunderstood learning disability, or as I prefer to call it, a learning difference. Having raised a dyslexic granddaughter and seeing her struggle I realize how important it is to identify it early. we were fortunate to identify her difference when she was in the first grade. There was one small, simple thing that got me to looking at symptoms. She could recognize and remember every number except 7. We could go through every number, but every time 7 showed it's face she was stumped.

We were also fortunate that Texas requires every public school to have a dyslexic specialist. And we are forever thankful for Amy Reid, her Dyslexia Specialist at Georgetown ISD who helped our granddaughter.
